Pereira D’Oliveira (Vinhos), Lda.

Pereira D’Oliveira (Vinhos), Lda. is a Madeira wine production and export business, an independent family firm, founded in 1850 by João Pereira D’Oliveira.

The company remains solidly family based, and after a century and half continues to advance not only as a family business in a corporate world, but as a dynamic family business despite the perils of Portugal’s inheritance laws.

The sixth generation is already assuming its quota of responsibility, it’s still the fifth generation that’s in the driving seat, with Anibal D’Oliveira and his son Filipe in charge of oenology, and Luís D’Oliveira responsibility for sales and marketing.

In this firm are included five producers and exporters of Madeira wine, all come from families from the island ; the oldest company dates back to the 1820s.

This winery has a considerable stock of rare old wines from the rich wine heritage of each firm mentioned above, which currently represents an increase in value for Pereira D’Oliveira (Vinhos), Lda. Every year , at the time of the harvest, grapes of different traditional and recommended varieties are bought from local wine growers , more or less 140, in various parts of the island and rare subject to ripeness and quality controls.

The tasting and sales department is located in one of the town’s emblematic buildings (originally a school), dated 1619 at Rua dos Ferreiros 107, in the heart of Funchal, north of City Hall. Of the company’s three warehouses in Funchal this is the only one open to the public. The largest one is located in the same street, numbers 213 & 215.

In our main building, Madeira wines are still ageing in a large number of vats and barrels, some up to a hundred years old. In line with the commercial policy of the firm, the wines, most of which are RESERVAS & HARVESTS, have always been exported in bottles exclusively to several European countries, Canadá, U.S.A. and Japan. The company has a vast selection of very old and rare VINTAGES, some more than a hundred years old and derived from extremely high-quality vintages. The brand name is D’Oliveiras for all our wines.
